• 영문초록 : The purpose of this study is to investigate the stage of pauperization of female householders who experience social exclusion during their lifetime, and their life-style in the social exclusion. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, we interviewed in depth ten female householders in lower income who lived in Daejeon, and analyzed their lifetime histories. According to the results of study, female householders experienced social exclusions in their lifetime, and social exclusions appeared in domains of labor market, education, social support network, social safety network, and residence. The female householders had the important turning points of their life and unusual adaptation with changes in roles in their original family, and marriage & childbirth. The characteristics which appeared in the turning points of their life and adaptation were "the dividing line in the course of career-the abandonment and acceptance", "marriage-the continuous endurance", "divorce-the inevitable choice", and "the very tired life as single parent". Based on the results of this study, we suggested the guidelines to reduce social exclusion of female householders.

본 연구는 여성 가구주들이 생애과정에서 경험하는 주요 삶의 영역에서의 사회적 배제와 삶의 대응방식에 대한 고찰을 통해 여성 가구주의 빈곤화과정의 맥락을 심도 있게 고찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대전 지역에 거주하고 있는 저소득 여성 가구주 10명과 심층면접하여 그들의 생애사 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 여성 가구주는 생애과정에서 다차원적인 사회적 배제, 즉 노동시장 영역, 교육 영역, 사회적지지망 영역, 사회적 안전망 영역, 주거 영역 등의 배제를 경험하고 있었다. 또한 여성 가구주들은 가족 내 역할변화와 관련하여 생의 전환을 경험하고, 나름대로 적응하였다. 삶의 전환점에서의 적응에서 보여지는 특성을 살펴보면, "진로의 갈림길-포기와 받아들임", "결혼-견딤의 연속", "이혼-어쩔 수 없는 선택", "고달픈 한부모로서의 삶"으로 그 공통된 특성을 발견할 수 있었다. 이러한 사회적 배제 경험은 상호 밀접하게 연관되어 강화되며 빈곤을 확대시키거나 미래에까지 전승하여 빈곤을 재생산하고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 빈곤한 여성가구주의 사회적 배제 완화를 위한 대안을 제언하였다.
