• 영문초록 : This study examines 1) the differences between unmarried mothers who chose adoption and those who chose child-rearing and 2) the effect of social relationship on the child-rearing decision of unmarried mothers. Total of 132 questionnaire were included in the analysis collected from 6 institutions for unmarried mothers in Korea. The findings of the study are as follows. First, we found the differences between two groups in the age, education level, family structure, cohabitation with other family members, reasons for the child birth, and the reaction of baby's father. Second, the support from family members did not affect the child-rearing decision of unmarried mothers, while the conflict with family members affected chid-rearing decision in a negative direction. On the other hand, the support from and conflict with the father of the baby both significantly affected the child-rearing decision of unmarried mothers. Interestingly, the effect of conflict with the baby's father was opposite to that of conflict with the family members.

본 연구는 양육을 원하는 미혼모가 점차 증가하는 상황에서, 양육을 선택하는 미혼모들의 특성과 이들의 양육결정에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 밝히기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 전국 6개 미혼모 시설에 입소해있는 미혼모 132명을 대상으로 조사를 실시하였다. 미혼모들 가운데 양육선택 집단과 입양선택 집단은 연령, 교육수준, 가족동거여부, 가족구조, 출산결정요인, 임신에 대한 미혼부의 반응 등에서 차이를 보였으며, 미혼모의 양육결정에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 미혼모의 연령, 직업유무, 가족의 동거여부, 임신희망여부, 미혼부의 지지와 갈등, 가족과의 갈등이 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 사회적 관계의 이중적인 특성인 지지와 갈등을 모두 살펴보는 것이 미혼모의 양육결정과정을 이해하는데 필요하다는 것을 보여주며, 이들 관계망에 대한 개입을 통해 미혼모의 양육결정 및 양육을 지원할 수 있음을 시사한다.
